You are part of a group of students (you can make up an organization that you are part of within
the student body-cheerleaders, lacrosse team, country punk band, robotics team etc.) who are on a school trip. The
school trip is on a chartered airplane with just a pilot and your group.. The trip takes you on a journey across an ocean (you can choose your body of water) to a country (you can choose your country) for a competition (you may choose your competition).. A storm approaches, knocking the airplane off course and crashing into ocean. You spot an island and attempt to make your way to the shore.
Within your group of no more than five individuals,
fulfill the following tasks.

Within your group of no more than five individuals,
fulfill the following tasks.
1. Describe the setting of your island. You may select whatever
climate you choose. The island has some vegetation, water sources, and animal life. The animal and vegetation types are up to your group deliberation. The island is uninhabited and apparently, undiscovered. It does not occur on any map, is not on any shipping lane, and no planes fly by. There is no hope for rescue in the near future. Draw a map of the island itself including terrain, coast line, key points of interest or use etc. |
2. Each member is allowed to select three items
which cannot cost more than $1000 total which they would have had on the plane and been able to recover from the plane before it sinks to the ocean's floor. None of the products that you use can have power (electric, battery, gas etc). These items should be selected for maximum survival benefit. Consult the web pages for items. You cannot use items that are not for sale within the web catalogues. You have the basic clothing that you wear everyday (special items spear gun, compass will count as part of your three items). Explain each item that you selected, why you selected it, and how it will help you survive in this climate. Give the cost for each item and where you would purchase it. You must purchase it from the seven web pages to the right. This can be made as a list, bullet points for each person. (Dr. Gingrich does not endorse the politics or products of any of these companies, this is just for the purposes of this activity) |
