For this assignment your role is that of a detective investigating gathering evidence about the monster/mythical creature that you select from below. Your goal is to find clues to the origins, history, characteristics, and representations of the creature you select.Your mission is to answer the mystery of whether or not your creature exists and why people at least at one time believed that they may have existed.
Step One (Everyone does this. Other steps will be if you select this as your optional project for the end of the seminar) : Research the information on the internet and write a response to the following questions. Write down the name of the webpage on which you find the information and the address of the webpage.
You may use google or another search engine to begin working on this. Here are some pages to help you to start. You will need other information more specifically than what you find on these pages.
For whichever creature you select complete the following information
1. What is the origin of your mythical creature? Where and when did it first appear as part of culture or folklore?
2. What are the characteristics of this creature?
3.Draw an original picture of your creature. Find a passage from one of the works we are studying which illustrates your creature. If it is not found in one of the works, books you have, you can use another literary work or piece of mythology.
4. What is the history of this creature? After its inception where else did it occur in history/literature? What works of art, stories, novels, films, etc. include this creature?
